Christmas Presents

In the eyes of a child, the most distinguishing part of Christmas is presents. With the economy on a low, and even if it wasn’t, I am not suggesting you throw a full-blown second Christmas for your children.

My children certainly don’t need more things.

Rather think of things you would be giving them anyway. We do it more often than we realize. We give our children little gifts all the time, but don’t make a big deal about it.

By simply wrapping it you take the item to the next level. And it doesn’t have to even be wrapped fancy. Personally, I used my reusable cloth Christmas bags to minimize waste.

So, what kind of items would be good to give for these Christmas in July fun activities for kids. As I said I gave the kids something I was going to give them anyways. Each child received a 4th of July outfit that I had found on sale. They were such a deal I purchased the matching flipflops and accessories.

I thought another item would be a good idea to make it look a little more Christmas in July like. And so, the only items they were getting weren’t just clothes though I don’t think there is anything wrong with that.

I made a second gift of things I already had on hand for random prizes. Most of them were things I had found at the dollar store. I even gave the baby, a toddler really, some soy-free snack bars she needs anyway.

So, my point is that your Christmas in July presents don’t need to be extravagant. The children were just excited by the anticipation of opening presents. And were really thrilled with everything they received.

Christmas Games

Now for the fun activities for kids. Presents don’t make a day full of fun. If anything, that kind of fun is fleeting.

I needed to come up with lots of Christmas activities that would fill the day.

I pulled out barely-used Christmas activity books. This was a perfect first activity after doing our regular “mommy school” activities for the day.

After workbooks, we had lunch and followed that up with baking cookies from scratch. This is always a favorite activity and is so educational. Just be sure to talk about measurements and measuring along the way.

For more Christmas in July fun activities for kids, we had a family snowball fight. We focused it in a hallway with not very many things on the walls. It also helps keep the snowballs in one area.

We used these soft fabric snowballs, so no one gets hurt and it is full of lots of laughs.

We also played a chimney beanbag toss game. It’s something my mother had purchased for the kids with a cardboard chimney and little beanbag presents that get tossed in.

You could make your own game with a box (decorated to look like a chimney) and beanbags or rolled-up socks.

Christmas Movies

The kids watched Christmas shows throughout the day. We actually made it a pajama day, so the kids wore their Christmas pajamas the entire day.

We watched Christmas cartoons and Christmas movies that we found on Netflix, Prime, and Disney+. It was fun to watch these shows out of season.

We have a lot of Christmas DVD’s the kids have received as gifts over the years, but here is a list of the shows you can easily find on these viewing platforms.

Prime is a bit tougher. You may get movies like A Charlie Brown Christmas or Elf in your area, but it was restricted for mine. Prime videos tend to be more seasonal, so they will bring out the classics for free toward the actual holiday. But that doesn’t help our Christmas in July Experiment.
